Javin Free State Declared
1 April 2007

BESPIN NODE -- A new regional confederation, dubbed the Javin Free State, was formally declared today during ceremonies on Bespin.  The State, jointly declared by the sovereign governments of the Alaris, Anoat, Bespin, Ison, and Varonat Systems, is located on the edge of the Outer Rim near the Corellian Trade Spine.

The confederation, according to its declaration, seeks to create a regional political, economic, and cultural territory independent of the dueling governments of the Galactic Civil War.  According to the State's newly named Chancellor and head of state, Lord Alric Oorsil, the State would be "a shield to its members, a guarantee of mutual protection in a time when entire worlds and sectors are devestated by internecine conflict."

Lord Oorsil vowed the State would respect the sovereignty of each of its members and would follow a policy of noninterference in domestic affairs.  Instead, he said, the State will present a unified, neutral front, diplomatically, economically, and militarily, to the galaxy at large, while preserving the unique governments, cultures, and societies of each of the State's member worlds.

The prepared remarks stressed the point of the new government's neutrality several times, with Lord Oorsil referencing his own long-established policy of neutrality.

Lord Oorsil is the sovereign ruler of the Alaris System, one of the State's founding members, as well as the Prex of Oorsil Enterprises.  As one of the guiding figures behind the creation of the regional confederation, and with respect to his status as one of the region's strongest and most influential political and business figures, the Senate of the Javin, the government's legislative branch, voted unanimously to confirm him as the State's first executive.

The Chancellor will be served by a Cabinet of several Ministers, four of whom were named during the ceremonies following a vote of confirmation by the Senate.  A list of important figures in the new government can be found in today's Newsview.

Lord Oorsil announced that the State would follow a policy of expansion "neither aggressive nor passive";  the State would invite other governments of the region to join the confederation, but it would not harass or otherwise excessively pursue those governments that choose not to confederate, he said.

On hand for the ceremonies were Thak Suwatra, Baron Administrator of Cloud City, and his full administration, as well as the full Senate and representatives from the tribal councils of Gentes and the colonies of Varonat.  Speakers included Minister of State Shang Ssu, Minister of Industry Oran Rell, Senator Dannia Garlan of Varonat, and Senator Ugdena Lubanda of Gentes.

Also in evidence were members of the Bespin Brigades, who stood out from Cloud City's regular security services in their black uniforms and lavender trim, and security officers contracted from Lord Oorsil's subsidiary firm Heritage Security Consultants.

Representatives of the Bespin Leadership Council and the Gentes Development Council, two of the advisorial bodies that helped guide the formation of the State, also had the honor of sharing the dais during the formal announcements.
